Beyond The 90
Hosted by Tom Garratt, the programme looks beyond simply reading out scores and results. Each episode tells the story of the weekend: what happened, why it mattered, who is finding form, where pressure is beginning to build and which clubs are creating the biggest talking points.
The show has a strong local focus, with regular coverage of Blackpool, Fleetwood Town and AFC Fylde, before widening out to include Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Bolton Wanderers and Salford City.
From League One and League Two to the Championship and National League, Beyond the 90 follows the different fortunes of our North West clubs throughout the season.
More Than Match Results
Football does not begin and end with the final whistle.
Beyond the 90 also explores some of the wider stories shaping the game.
That can include changes to football’s laws, financial regulations, play-off formats, managerial changes, transfers, cup competitions and the decisions being made away from the pitch.
The aim is to keep the programme informative without making it complicated.
Listeners can expect clear, relaxed football discussion which gives enough detail to understand the story without becoming overloaded with statistics.
There is also room for the unusual moments, local rivalries, dramatic late goals, cup upsets and everything else that makes following football unpredictable.
Tom is blind, and Tune-Ability has developed an accessible recording method that allows him to host the programme independently in his own voice.
During recording, Tom’s script is read aloud for him to follow. Tom repeats and presents each section, and the guide voice is then removed during editing.
The finished programme heard by listeners is Tom’s voice.
It is one example of the way Tune Ability adapts media production around the individual rather than expecting every presenter to work in exactly the same way.
Growing the Team
Beyond the 90 is continuing to develop, and bringing more voices into the programme is an important part of that.
We would love to hear from people with a learning difficulty or autism who have an interest in football and would like to explore getting involved.
That might mean presenting, sharing football opinions, researching stories, interviewing guests or helping with production behind the scenes.
No previous radio or podcast experience is needed.
Support can be adapted around each individual, allowing people to participate in a way that works for them.
